After all of this rain Jeanne and I took this opportunity to trim Toenails. Those Alpacas just keep growing those nails. But, after standing in the wet grass for a couple of days they were nice and soft so Jeanne could trim them easily. I, of course, do the grunt work of trying to hold them still while Jeanne does the trimming. We started with Magnum who decided that we were trying to kill him and put up quite a fuss. Then we did Bruto who stood there like he was bored with it all.
Then while we were on a roll we did China Doll who as always Kooshed every time Jeanne picked up one of her feet making things difficult. Finally it was Avenger's turn, he was pretty good about it, but kept sticking his off side foot through the fence for balance. So, that is done for 3 or 4 months till the next time.....
I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a whole bunch of these Critters like our friends do. I guess then you'd have to have the Tilt Table and Squeeze Chute, not to mention plenty of help. The same goes for feeding them, we only go through one large bale of Timothy a week feeding 4 Alpacas and the 2 Goats.... The Goats waste more than the Alpacas eat.
Can you imagine what having 30 to 60 of these guys would take to feed? They are making some money off of selling a few Critters, while Jeanne and I got into it for the fiber.
Jeanne has sold some skeins of yarn lately. But, mostly She has been using the fiber for her own projects. Of course we have only been in this for a year now. I suppose if China Doll blessed us with a Cria we'd entertain the thought of selling a critter, but I doubt if we would be able to part with it. Besides, what if it was a color we don't have yet?
Well, enough for now, gotta go feed........
